BB launches $ 200m ‘green transformation fund’
The central bank of Bangladesh is launching a US$200 million fund to green the country’s clothing factories.
Governor Atiur Rahman trailed the initiative at a sustainable development conference in Dhaka last week.
The goal was “transforming Bangladesh into a fully fledged ‘green’ nation,” he told delegates, to stay competitive amid slowing global trade.
Following financial incentives to light Bangladeshi homes with solar power, it represents a scaling up of the bank’s green ambitions.
While it is not yet clear how, the fund is to shrink the carbon footprint of Bangladesh’s textile 
Airport security measures hamper RMG export
Bangladesh’s garment industry is struggling with delays to both imports and exports as security measures at Dhaka’s airport are beefed up after several countries expressed concern.
Delegates from the UK Civil Aviation Authority last week urged Bangladesh to adopt new security measures within the next three months, insisting on a “three-layer security system” for Dhaka-London flights.
Worries over “flimsy” security at Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport have already led to a ban on air freight imports by Australia.

AHRC calls to take words of CJ with utmost seriousness
In a statement, the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has called upon the UN and all the world governments to take the words of the Chief Justice (CJ) of Bangladesh with utmost seriousness and exert all pressures to stop the Executive from usurping the powers of the Judiciary. Bangladesh’s Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has made a rare public statement; he has said the Executive is usurping all the powers of the Judiciary. He called upon all the judges and lawyers to come forward and fight against the Executive’s attempt to control the entire State and its institutions and thereby usurp all the power of Judiciary, AHRC said.

Ganges dam project stumbles on Indian flooding fears
Bangladesh’s plan to build a dam on the Ganges River to ease water shortages in its southwest coastal region hangs in the balance as neighbouring India has yet to accept the plan.
Bangladesh started work on the proposed Ganges Barrage Project during the tenure of the previous ruling Awami League government in the late 1990s.
The country has already completed a feasibility study and the design for the proposed 2.1km long dam, due to be constructed at Pangsha in Rajbari district, about 100km downstream from 

RMG sector to get full-fledged institute, testing laboratory
A four-day international sourcing trade shows on RMG industry under one roof yesterday began in the city in a bid to making apparel industry more enriched.
Industries Minister Amair Hossain Amu inaugurated the three international events as chief guest. He said, “About 300 factories in accessories and packaging sector are in operation in the country. Products ranging 30 to 35 are being produced in the backward industries of the RMG. The country earned about $5.61 billion in fiscal year 2014-15 by exporting surplus after meeting the local demand.”
