In a landmark move to strengthen trade justice and accelerate the country's economic development, the government has issued the Commercial Court Ordinance, 2026.
The ordinance provides for the establishment of Commercial Courts across the country, aimed at increasing investment and ensuring the timely resolution of business disputes.
The gazette, issued last night, confirmed that the ordinance will come into effect immediately. Analysts say this initiative is a major step in improving the judicial infrastructure for commerce, a longstanding demand from both domestic and foreign investors.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday said that “the SAARC spirit is alive and well,” citing the strong presence and solidarity shown by South Asian nations at the funeral of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Professor Yunus said he was deeply moved by the respect demonstrated by SAARC member states for the three-time Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the world’s second female Muslim head of government.

On Tuesday, the premises of Evercare Hospital in Bangladesh’s capital turned into a sombre focal point for a nation’s grief as news filtered out of the medical facility: Khaleda Zia, three-time prime minister and longtime leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was dead.
Khaleda had been receiving treatment at the hospital since the night of November 23.
