Govt borrows Tk 3,400cr from banks in first 15 days of FY15
The government’s borrowing from the banking system increased by 1,956.60 per cent in the first 15 days of this financial year compared with that in the same period of the FY14 as it took huge amount of loans from the banking source to pay salaries and festival bonus to its employees.
The borrowing from the banks by the government stood at Tk 3,384.56 crore until July 15 against only Tk 116.57 crore the government borrowed in the same period of the FY14, according to the latest BB data, reports the New Age.
The government borrowing from the banking sector declined by 67.64 per cent in the recently concluded FY14 compared with that of a rise by 14.50 per cent in the FY13 due to a slower pace in implementation of the government’s development works amid political unrest.

“I feel shame as a Greek,” said the victim’s lawyer, Moisis Karabeyidis, after the tribunal in the western port city of Patras, delivered the shock ruling. “This decision is an outrage and a disgrace … the court showed an appalling attitude toward the victims.”

For the first time an FCI consignment will enter Tripura using Ashuganj river port of Bangladesh, a senior official said today. Bangladesh plane catches fire at Nepal , passengers safe
A Bangladeshi aircraft caught fire while landing at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Monday afternoon, officials said.
Airport police said the wheels of Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG702 caught fire when it touched down at the airport at around 2 p.m., Xinhua reported.
Fire fighters at TIA soon brought the minor fire under control and the passengers were evacuated.

Bangladesh has improved one step in Human Development Index (HDI) to rank 142 globally, up from 143, as per the Human Development Report 2014.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) released the report on its website on Thursday.
