
Google to help 500,000 students learn about the Internet
Google is literally hitting the road to promote the potential of the internet in Bangladesh. The company today launched ‘Google Bus Bangladesh’, an educational program aimed at teaching key digital skills to more than half a million students in the South Asian country.
There are some outlandish programs to help connect the world’s population — including Google’s balloons, SpaceX’s forthcoming satellites, and Facebook’s drones — but Google is going back to basics with this roadshow across the world’s eighth most populated country.

Santanu Ganguly, a businessman from Kolkata, visits Bangladesh every three months.
In October, when he landed at Dhaka airport Ganguly was surprised by a Grameenphone advertisement offering subscribers a minute of free talk time for every dropped call.

Govt to create cartel of IGW operators
The government plans to create a cartel of international gateway (IGW) operators, in an attempt to allow a handful of companies to form a 2-tier clearing exchange for gaining control over the pricing of international incoming call termination, The Dhaka Tribune reports. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has already formed a panel to that effect, comprising 7 of the 23 active IGW operators.

Internet, mobile, PSTN users rise in August
Bangladesh ended August with 40.83 million internet subscribers, compared with 39.35 million at the end of July. The mobile internet base reached 39.32 million, up from 37.84 million in July, according to figures from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The number of fixed-line internet users totaled 1.23 million in August, almost flat compared with the previous month, while the number of Wimax subscribers amounted to 271,831 by end-August, compared with 276,046 at end-July.
