Bangladesh ended August with 40.83 million internet subscribers, compared with 39.35 million at the end of July. The mobile internet base reached 39.32 million, up from 37.84 million in July, according to figures from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The number of fixed-line internet users totaled 1.23 million in August, almost flat compared with the previous month, while the number of Wimax subscribers amounted to 271,831 by end-August, compared with 276,046 at end-July.
The country reached 117.57 million mobile telephony subscribers in August, up from 116.87 million in July, according to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). At end-August, mobile operator Grameenphone had 49.74 million mobile phone customers, followed by Banglalink and Robi with 29.92 million and 24.67 million mobile phone users, respectively. Airtel came next with 8.14 million mobile telephony subscribers, followed by Teletalk (3.72 million) and Citycell (1.37 million).
Bangladesh ended August with 1.108 million PSTN telephony subscribers, up from 1.096 million subscribers in July. BTCL leads the market with 845,000 subscribers, followed by Ranks Telecom with 249,130 PSTN customers, figures from regulator BTRC show. BanglaPhone ended August with 5,450 PSTN users, while World Tel had 8,950 PSTN subscribers at end-August.
