The orientation for the Professional Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies and Human Rights of the Summer 2023 session at the University of Dhaka was held on Friday (August 18), 2023. The orientation for the 1st batch of the Social Science Faculty was conducted at the Teacher’s Lounge of the University of Dhaka. The chief guest for the event was Professor Dr. Zia Rahman, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
In his speech, the chief guest mentioned that the name of the University of Dhaka is pronounced alongside the educational institutions of the world, making it a global education institution. Despite various limitations, the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies is launching this Master’s program for professionals because it is the need of the hour.
Further addressing the event, the Chairman of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, Dr. Saber Ahmed Chowdhury, highlighted that the most significant aspect of the Professional Masters is that education here is not unidirectional, but it involves the sharing of acquired knowledge between students and teachers, facilitating the educational process.
Also present at the event were the Coordinator of the Professional Masters program, Mr. Saifuddin Ahmed, along with other teachers from the department.
At this time, students exchanged greetings with flowers and gifts among themselves. Notably, through written and oral examinations, 40 students of the 1st batch of this Master’s program have the opportunity to participate. The admission process for the 2nd batch of the Professional Masters program will be held in December of this year.
