European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, is currently visiting Bangladesh.
During her visit, the Commissioner toured the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar and is set to meet Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday at noon. Later that afternoon, she will attend a book launch event titled “Bangladesh, 36 July 2024” at a city park.
Following the book launch, she is scheduled to meet Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hadja Lahbib is actively working to strengthen and enhance European crisis management and civil preparedness, both within the European Union and globally. Her responsibilities include promoting equality, fostering inclusion, and safeguarding the rights of minorities to build a fairer society and social model for all.
As part of her role, she is leading the development of a Roadmap for Women’s Rights in preparation for International Women’s Day 2025. This roadmap will outline key principles for gender equality policies in the coming years and will serve as the foundation for a new Gender Equality Strategy.
In addition to her focus on equality, Commissioner Lahbib oversees preparedness and crisis management. She is committed to ensuring a more proactive and resilient approach to managing crises and enhancing civil preparedness across Europe and beyond.
Commissioner Hadja Lahbib arrived in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon. She was warmly welcomed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
