Foreign university professors call on DU Vice-Chancellor

A group of professors and researchers from Mexico, Poland and India called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique on Thursday at the latter’s office.

The researchers and professors present were Prof Dr Ana Teresa Gutierrez del Cid, Dr Graciela Perez Gavilan Rojas, Dr Rosario Arroyo Velasco and Dr Erika Hinsen from Metropolitan Autonomous University, Mexico; Prof Dr Sivanandan Sivakumar from Indian Law Institute (Deemed University), Dr Lisa P Lukose from University School of  Law and  Legal Studies (USLLS), India and Tomasz Lachowski, a PhD candidate from University of Lodz, Poland.

DSC_0046Chairman of Bangladesh Human Rights Commission Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman and Prof Dr Md Rahmat Ullah of the Department of Law of DU were present on the occasion.

During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of establishing joint collaborative programmes between DhakaUniversity and Mexican and Indian universities. They also stressed the need for exchange of teachers, students and researchers among the universities.

DU Vice-Chancellor apprised foreign professors of history and academic programmes of the university in brief. He also apprised them of Genocide and War crimes committed by Pakistan occupation forces and their local collaborators during the Liberation War in 1971.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the guests for their visit to and keen interest in establishing joint collaborative academic programmes with DU.

It may be mentioned that the professors and researchers are now in Bangladesh on invitation of the Empowerment through Law of the Common People (ELCOP) to attend the 14th session of its yearly program Human Rights Summer School, 2013.

The theme for this year is ‘Human Rights and Climate Justice’.

A total of 48 law students of different universities from home and abroad and legal professionals, activists, researchers and academicians will attend the session.
