Kalabagan Tentultala playground protection movement: mother and son released

Syeda Ratna went live on Facebook to show the Police building walls

Syeda Ratna and her youngest son, Isa Abdullah Sadekin Piyanshuk, were freed on bail by the police after they mounted a demonstration against the construction of the Kalabagan police station building at the Kalabagan Tentultala field in August.

At 12:15 p.m. on Sunday (April 24), Paritosh Chandra, the officer in charge of the Kalabagan Police Station, verified that they were released at 12:15 p.m.

In the early hours of the morning, Syed Ratna and her son Pianshu were reportedly detained for allegedly videotaping and protesting against the construction of a police station building at Tentultala playground in the capital’s Kalabagan neighbourhood. On the other hand, police claim that they have been held on suspicion of disrupting construction work and shoving a contractor. They were brought into police custody in the early hours of the morning from Tentultala.

Twelve organizations, including TIB, Bela, and Bapa, have called a press conference to protest the incident and demand the stoppage of construction of a police station at Tentultala ground. The press conference was scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.

Syeda Ratna works in the music department of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, which is a coincidence. He has been actively involved with the movement of local children and adolescents since he took the initiative to establish a police station at Tentultala field, and she has also served as the movement’s coordinator since that time.
