New dawn arrives in America  

With more than 74 million votes goes in favor of president elect Joe Biden. None received so many votes than Joe Biden in history of the United States while he secured 273 electoral college votes. That means Joe Biden not only exceeds electoral college votes but also a record number of 4 million popular votes. The present President Donald Trump secured 214 electoral college votes which is short of 56 electoral college votes, writes Mohammad Amjad Hossain. 

Having ruled the United States of America for the last four years along with members of family by President Donald Trump a new dawn has set in following winning the presidency by Joe Biden, a Democrat, apart from vice-President Kamala Harris, black America woman, who shattered the glass ceiling that no woman ever did before. In recent past Geraldine Ferrare with President nominee Walter Mondale in 1984 while Sara Palin with President nominee John McCain in 2000 contested as Vice-President.

 President elect Joe Biden addressed the nation in the evening of 7 November from his hometown Wilmington of Delaware by saying let us be the nation that we knew we can be, a nation while people around the country went out in jubilant mode to celebrate the victory. Despite the fact the country’s death toll stands at over 237000 with more than 9.9 million cases now reported in the country since the outbreak began.  

Apart from winning the Presidency, the House of Representatives also went to Democratic Party while the Senate remained three seats short but Democratic Party is expected to win two more seats from Georgia in January next year. Spontaneous celebration has taken place in many parts of the country in connection with the arrival of a new era in political leadership of America. 

As of now President Donald Trump did not concede defeat which may have problems for smooth transition of power while President elect Joe Biden said it is an embarrassment but his transition was well underway. Eventually President elect Joe Biden takes over the administration on 20 January next year. It is unprecedented in modern history that a defeated President did not acknowledge defeat. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Macron and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated president –elect Joe Biden. Interesting to observe that having close relation with President Donald Trump Israeli Prime Minister Mr. Netanyahu congratulated president-elect Joe Biden and thanked defeated president for his service towards Israel.

Having set the ball, the Democratic elect President is expected to revive the policy of foreign relation of former Democratic President Barack Obama to regain the prestige of the country in the international arena. Having said that, the President-elect also concentrated on controlling coronavirus. A team of experts have been selected to work on to control the spread of the disease while emphasis is being laid to control climate change while backing Paris agreement. The USA will continue supporting the World Health organization (WHO). Meanwhile, Iranian President Rouhani in a televised speech on 7 November urged President elect Joe Biden to return to the nuclear deal.
