The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PRAN-RFL Group, Major General (Retd.) Amjad Khan Chowdhury passed away today. He was 75.
He had been suffering from cardiac ailments and diabetes since a long time and was admitted to Duke Medical of North Carolina, USA for treatment, said Kamruzzaman Kamal, the group’s director of marketing.
Amjad Khan, who first took Bangladeshi brand abroad successfully and pioneered in establishing food processing in the country, was born in Natore in 1940. He was educated at Dhaka and graduated from Pakistan Military Academy and Australian Staff College.
He joined Pakistan Army in 1956. Repatriating to Bangladesh in 1973 he held many important positions including General Officer Commanding at Comilla and Bogra. His last appointment was Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army. He went to retirement in 1981.
The soldier-turned-businessman started his business career in 1982. His breakthrough came a decade later when he set up an agro-processing business in 1991.
Amjad Khan was the founder-president of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association and a former president of Underprivileged Children’s Education Programme.
He was also the president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dhaka, the oldest chamber of the country, for twice in 2011 and 2012.
