Dr. Abu Sayeed awarded AIA Presidential Medal, honorary membership

Prof. Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed, Dean of Environmental Sciences and Design, University of Asia Pacific, received the AIA Presidential Medal and Honorary Membership. The American Institute of Architects Board of Directors has given Prof. Dr. Abu Sayeed the Presidential Medal and made him a member of the AIA.

Because of his work with the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA), Prof. Sayeed has been nominated for this very important award. During the AIA Conference on Architecture in Chicago in 2022, Prof. Sayeed will be honoured with the AIA Presidential Medal and become a member of the AIA. The Convocation Reception will be held on June 25, 2022.

Prof. Sayeed is a significant architect in Bangladesh who has held several high-level roles in national and international forums. Notably, he was chosen as President of ARCASIA for the years 20222023. He previously held different ARCASIA roles for over a decade.

Prof. Sayeed is prominent in the Bangladeshi heritage conservation movement. He is now working in Bangladesh on restoration projects and has written four books on historical sites and conservation. He just got an “Award of Merit” from the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Awards.

Prof. Sayeed has a PhD in Civil Engineering and a Master of Architecture in Building History from Karlsruhe University in Germany (BUET). Prof. Sayeed began his work as a teaching assistant at the Institute for Building History, Faculty of Architecture, Karlsruhe University, Germany. In 1997, he was appointed Professor in the UAP Architecture Department as a result of his excellent teaching. He also held university administration positions.
