National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Nojibur Rahman today urged the businesspeople to use Electronic Cash Register (ECR) to collect Value Added Tax (VAT) and deposit it to exchequer properly.
“Modernize your accounting system, use ECR and if you face any problem, contact NBR online, we are with you,” the NBR chairman told businesspeople while visiting Bashundhara shopping mall in the city on the occasion of National VAT Week that began on December 9.
He said VAT week is actually a week to give VAT collectors and payers services about VAT related issues, reports BSS.
“We organized the VAT week for the first time to create a friendly
relation between businesspeople and revenue officials. Throughout the week we have tried to give VAT payers and collectors idea about the new VAT law,” he said.
President of the shop owners association of Bashunbdhara Shopping Centre MA Hannan Azad said there are also small shops in the mall and NBR needs to give special attention to them. Azad said he has asked shop owners to use ECR but they have sought some times to use ECR. “I hope all shops will soon start using ECR,” he added.
At this time, a shop owner demanded supplying of ECR machine free of cost. NBR member (VAT) Rezaul Hasan told him that NBR will soon give businesspeople ECR machine at subsidized price.
There are over 2,400 shops in the Bashunbdhara Shopping Centre.
