Record tea output in 2016 – minister
Bangladesh’s tea output in 2016 is expected to hit a record 80 million kg from 66 million a year earlier, the commerce minister said on Sunday, a volume that may be big enough to make imports unnecessary.

LafargeHolcim to increase limestone production
LafargeHolcim plans to increase production of limestone from its Nongtrai mines in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, Bangladesh, from two to five million tonnes per year. The company also plans to export limestone.
The company has received notice from the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board for a 
public hearing on the expansion plan at Nontrai for excavation of limestone. In 2009, the company had applied to Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for environmental clearance, says a report.

Tata Motors, the largest automobile manufacturer in India, on Wednesday launched its next-generation range of ‘Ultra’ commercial vehicles in Bangladesh.

Onion prices shoot up in Pakistan
Pakistan is poised to fetch higher export orders for onion this year after India, its competitor, and Bangladesh returned to the international markets to overcome local shortage in supplies, traders have said.
