Rs 5 lakh compensation to Felani’s family!

India’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended its Home Ministry to pay a compensation of half a million Indian rupees to the family of murdered Bangladeshi girl Felani Khatun. The NHRC verdict stated that: “The Commission is aware that the security forces are discharging a sensitive job at the borders. They must, however, adhere to some discipline and norms while performing such duty,” adding that a compliance report be submitted from the ministry within six weeks. Quoting a BSF order, which asks its troopers to ‘exercise utmost restraint when dealing with unarmed women and children’, the verdict went on to say that Felani was an unarmed girl. As a result, the BSF constable who shot at her acted in disregard of the circular issued by the BSF Headquarters.”

Bandwidth prices go down

Internet bandwidth prices have been reduced by 41 percent. About a month ago, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered to keep the price of internet within people’s reach. The directives to reduce internet prices come following that on Monday. Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) announced the price cut saying the internet gateways will get 1MBPS bandwidth at Tk 625 from Tuesday. Airtel mulls selling operations in Bangladesh

India’s Bharti Airtel reportedly is considering selling its Bangladesh and Sri Lanka operations, which are both minor players in the low-ARPU markets. Airtel has appointed two bankers to lead the sale, according to the Business Standard. Reports airtelsaid it first plans to sell its tower business and then the mobile business in both countries.
