Protesters to hold nationwide funeral processions Wednesday

Staff Reporter:  In the wake of the ongoing quota reform movement, clashes between police, Chhatra League members, and general students have resulted in the deaths of six individuals across the country. To honor those killed, protesters announced they will hold symbolic funeral processions (Ghaibana Janaza) and coffin marches nationwide on Wednesday. The announcement was made by the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
The coordinators stated, "In memory of our fallen brothers who were martyred in today's joint attacks and shootings by the police and Chhatra League, a 'Ghaibana Janaza and Coffin March' will be held at the base of the Raju Sculpture at 2 PM on July 17."

Schools, colleges closed indefinitely nationwide

Staff Reporter: All secondary and higher secondary educational institutions, as well as polytechnic institutes, across the country have been ordered to suspend their classes indefinitely. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Education in a statement released on Tuesday evening (July 16). Abul Khair, the ministry's public relations officer, confirmed the directive. The statement noted that considering the safety of school and college-going students, all educational institutions under the purview of the Ministry of Education, including secondary and higher secondary schools and polytechnic institutes, will remain closed until further notice.            

Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan MP passes away

bdreports24 Desk:  Former Awami League MP from Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) and former district Awami League president Dr Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan passed away at a private hospital in Dhaka on Friday morning. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a host of relatives and friends, reports UNB. His namaz-e-janaza will be held in Faridganj on Friday afternoon. French Ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Mrs. Marie Masdupuy was present as a chief guest and Registrar of AIUB, Group Captain (Ret.) Dr. Mohammad Zahidul Islam Khan was present as a special guest at the closing ceremony of BiMUN-2023.
