Mufti Abdur Rahman, former member of Shari`ah Council of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited passed away on Tuesday November 10, 2015(Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihe Raziun). He was member of the council from 1984 to 1992. He was 96 years old.

Over the last few weeks, the body count of intolerance has been unbearably high in Bangladesh. It started when an Italian aid worker named Cesare Tavella was shot to death in the capital, Dhaka, at the end of September. Days later, a Japanese man by the name of Konio Hoshi was gunned down in the northern district of Rangpur. At a procession to mark Ashura, the Shiite festival commemorating the martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussein, a series of bomb blasts caused scores of injuries and the death of a 16-year-old boy named Sajjad Hossain Sanju.

Bangladeshi origin US citizen Subir Chowdhury has been appointed as charter member of World Bank President Jim Yong Kim’s advisory council.
He has started functioning as the adviser to the bank’s president from this month, WB sources confirmed.
Other members of the advisory councils are Marshal Goldsmith, Mark Thompson, Rita Mcgrain

and Maya Hu-Chan.
