Begum editor Nurjahan no more
Pioneering Bengali woman journalist and editor of the country’s first illustrated women’s weekly ‘Begum’, Nurjahan Begum, passed away at Square Hospital in Dhaka on Monday morning. She was 91.
Nurjahan Begum who was admitted to the Square Hospital on Wednesday last with respiratory problems, including pneumonia, was shifted to the hospital’s intensive care unit on Saturday as her condition deteriorated. She was on life support till then and physicians declared him dead at around 9:45am.

Naushaba passes away at 83
Naushaba was the wife of I. H. Burney, founder and editor of Outlook (known for its free expression despite government persecution), who trained in journalism from Stanford University and went on to establish the Karachi Press Club. She was the mother of Shehryar Burney, ED Yellow and the eldest sister of Amina Saiyid, OBE, Managing Director of Oxford University Press, Pakistan and Syed Naved Husain, Group Director and CEO Beximco, says a press release.
