US offers counterterrorism expertise for Bangladesh

The United States on Sunday offered Bangladesh Washington’s expertise in building Bangladesh’s counterterrorism capabilities.

The offer came from US assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs Nisha nisha biswalDesai Biswal who came to Dhaka in the wake of the Gulshan cafe attack that left 28 people killed.

“We will continue our assistance in combatting the global threat of terrorism that our countries both confront,” she said after her official talks.

She met foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali and foreign secretary Shahidul Haque at the foreign office and discussed Bangladesh’s bilateral relations with the United States and the security situation in the country.

The US official also offered her condolences for the victims of the recent terrorist attacks.

“We share the grief of our Bangladeshi partners,” she said. “Our commitment to Bangladesh remains as robust as ever.”

Nisha Desai Biswal, who arrived in Dhaka on Sunday, was accompanied at the meeting by US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat and deputy assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs Manpreet Anand.
