Hapless enclaves people in Indo-Bangla border seek identity

Are border enclaves - surrounded by foreign land - part of a country’s territory? Or are they merely properties owned by a country on foreign shores populated by mostly poor and unlettered people devoid of legal identity? With the India-Bangladesh enclaves triggering diplomatic issues, an organisation is moving court seeking an answer. The Bharat-Bangladesh Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee (BBEECC), an organisation fighting for the rights of thousands of “stateless” enclave dwellers, will approach the Indian Supreme Court on the constitutional status of the 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in India, which have a cumulative population of over 51,000.

Robi, Bangladesh Army attempts Guinness Record on Victory Day

Robi Axiata Ltd, in partnership with the Bangladesh Army, announced the creation of the world’s biggest Bangladesh Flag, to be revealed at the National Parade Ground, Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, on Victory Day. This incredible attempt will start on the morning of 16th December with nearly 30,000 volunteers who will help to create the flag. Each person will hold up a coloured placard and the 30,000 people will collectively create the largest flag in world and shatter a standing Guinness World Record. The main objective of this event is not only to celebrate Victory Day this year but also show the world the inner strength and unity of the people of Bangladesh, says a press release.

AIBL initiates course on Islamic Banking

Foreign venture optimistic to participate in BD telco market

Bangladesh has discovered a way to grow its telecom sector in spite of some odds. The nation of more than 150 million people, with its comparatively low GDP per capita, has been involved in the creation of a very competitive mobile telco market. Oman announces compensation for 36 Bangladeshi workers

The Labour Court of Oman has recently ordered compensation to 36 Bangladeshi workers who had been working for a construction firm in the Sultanate without regular salaries for over two years. The men, who are now waiting for their tickets and passports, will be given their dues ranging from RO1,000 to RO1,500 on the day of their departure. A Bangladeshi Embassy official said, “Some of them might have problems like non-availability of passports, which we’ll take care of.
