Onion hits kitchen market with increase by Tk 25 per kg

The onion price rose by Tk 25 per kg by the weekend and was selling at Tk 115 per kg which is considered to be shock of the nationwide blockade. The imported onion was found selling slightly at lower rate. The blockade has also contributed to the rise of vegetables’ price since none of the products was selling below Tk 40 on Friday. However, there was abundance of supplies. Shamim Ahmed, a wholesaler said at Karwan Bazar that huge quantities of vegetables had been rotten in different parts of the country, including Bogra and Jessore. July-Sept exports to Europe post modest growth

Key destinations of country’s export market like Germany, UK and France a posted modest growth in the first quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal (2013-14) as compared to the same period of the last fiscal (2012-13). In July-September of the current fiscal, exports to Germany totaled $ 1,237.60 million, which was 16.22 percent of total export earnings for the three-month period. RMG makers seek special law against destructive acts

Considering the recent arson attack on Standard Group an attack on the country’s RMG’s success story, apparel makers now seek a special law against such destructive acts to ensure exemplary punishment of perpetrators in a tribunal. “A special law against such destructive acts must be enacted,” President of the Exporters’ Association of Bangladesh (EAB) Abdus Salam Murshedy told UNB over phone. He said they have already talked to the Prime Minister about the formulation of such a law and also setting up of a tribunal. “I believe, the BGMEA will come up with a formal proposal soon,” said Salam Murshedy, also a BGMEA former President.
