The British Council has awarded four candidates the “British Council IELTS Scholarships 2015” today at the British Council in Fuller Road. The program aims to support more students to access an international education experience.
This year, candidates planning to study in an undergraduate or postgraduate programme in any international higher education institution that recognises IELTS were invited to apply for the scholarship. Four applicants were nominated to receive the scholarship each worth of BDT 
300,000. Scholarship payments will be made to the respective higher educational institution in order to support the awarded students towards their tuition fees.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury, Honorable Speaker, Bangladesh National Parliament, was present at the event as Chief Guest. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka, also attended the event as Special Guest. Barbara Wickham Country Director, British Council and Deep Adhikari, Director Examination, British Council also present.
‘It is a great pleasure for us to see talented students from Bangladesh travel abroad to take higher education from renowned international universities, especially after being recognised for exceptional scores in an internationally accredited test. I would advise our bright students to get the best learning that they can gain from there, and come back to Bangladesh to use the knowledge in building a more prosperous country. I also thank the British Council for extending their support to our bright young students,’ said Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

I would like to remind our students that you are the architects of our nation’s future, and would ask you to come back wiser and more accomplished human beings to build a better future for yourselves and the next generation,’ said Barbara Wickham.
This year, applicants were asked to submit a written task as a part of their application for this scholarship scheme. On March 23, 2016, was the first stage of the scholarship assessment process where the British Council’s written assessment panel screened through heaps of applications to select the best 25 applicants for an interview session. The interview session was held on 29 March 2016 and after the interview, the British Council came up with four winners this year. Among 4 Scholarships to give away, the British Council locked two scholarships for Canada, and one each for UK and USA.
