GREAT British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain has been hailed a ‘true British Muslim’ and an inspiration to others by Portsmouth’s Bangladeshi leader.
The 30-year-old mum, from Leeds, was crowned the winner of the latest BBC series of the TV competition, beating Ian Cumming and Tamal Ray in an emotional final which had judge Mary Berry in tears.
Abu-Suyeb Tanzam, head of the British Bangladeshi Cultural Academy in Portsmouth, said he has been ‘humbled’ by Nadiya’s success.
Great British Bake Off’s latest champion is a Muslim of a Bangladeshi heritage.
Abu-Suyeb Tanzam said: ‘She is a true British Muslim, showing quality and talent. We as a community want to become a focus on good things and we are really proud of her.
‘People will look at this and it will inspire them, it shows them that if you do anything good, you will be rewarded.
‘Everyone is congratulating her. I congratulated Nadiya on my Facebook page and the British public are behind her.’
