The first national conference of Bangladesh Crystallographic Association (BCA) on ‘Crystallography in Bangladesh’ was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday.
President of the Bangladesh Crystallographic Association Professor Dr Altaf Hussain presided over the inaugural function of the conference while DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the ceremony as chief guest, says a press release.
Among others, the function was also addressed by Prof Dr Kazi Ali Azam, Dr Dilip Kumar Saha, Dr Md. Aftab Ali Shaikh and German Prof Dr Claus Ruscher.
Prof Arefin Siddique said, the science of crystals is called Crystallography. Crystallography is a technique for investigating the structure of matter in the ordered solid state, scientifically defined as crystalline state. Modern Crystallography is a dynamic, methodical, innovative, interdisciplinary structural science.
He said, the United Nations has declared the year 2014 as the official International year of Crystallography. Bangladesh Crystallography Association has a bright prospect in the coming days and the Association will usher in a new era of Crystallography education and research in Bangladesh.
