Global Money Week 2018 celebrated

Who would not like to save a little extra every month? The British Council recognises the importance of developing responsible spending habits among the youth to ensure sustainable economic growth and to combat poverty in densely populated countries.

In collaboration with the Daffodil family, Bangladesh Skills development Institute, EMK Centre and Bangladesh Bank, the British Council have celebrated Global Money Week (GMW) 2018 from 12-18 March 2018 with an array of activities. This year’s theme was ‘Money Matters Matter’.

It is an annual global celebration, initiated by Child & Youth Finance International (CYFI), with selected_library_20180318_global_money_week_2018local and regional events and activities aimed at inspiring children and youth to learn about money, saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment, empowerment and becoming an entrepreneur. This year, the British Council arranged a business game activity for the secondary school students, which was facilitated by ACCA Bangladesh. Around 50 students from European Standard School and Daffodil International School took part in this gaming session. During the week-long celebrations, over 15000 students from various schools, colleges and universities learned how money works, including saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment, and entrepreneurship.

The closing ceremony was held at the British Council auditorium on 18 March 2018. The ceremony began with the welcome note by Faye Nicholls, Teaching Centre Manager, Teaching Centre, British Council. Rezaul Karim, DGM, Bangladesh Bank, K M Hasan Ripon, advisor, Bangladesh Skills Development Institute, Quazi M Ahmed, Founder and President, Future Leaders, Syed Waseque Md. Ali, Managing Director, First Security Islami Bank Ltd. were also present at the ceremony. The honourable guests interacted with the audiences and highlighted the value of money and savings and discussed why the practice of savings is essential for students.

The British Council has been participating in this celebration with Daffodil Family since 2015.
