Maldives eager to import sand from Bangladesh

The Maldives is eager to import sand from Bangladesh and sending more students to the country to pursue their studies in medical sciences in Bangladesh’s medical colleges.

The High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh Dr. Mohamed Asim expressed his country’s interest in this regard when he called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam at Flag-Pins-Bangladesh-Maldivesthe latter’s office here, a foreign ministry press release said.

During the meeting, the state minister sought support of Maldives with regard to fishing in the deep sea while mentioning Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s deep interest on Blue Economy.

In reply, the high commissioner expressed his government’s willingness to this end.

Later, the newly appointed Sri Lankan Ambassador to Bangladesh Yasuja Gunasekera paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam at his office.

During the meeting, they discussed issues relating to bilateral trade and business, investment cooperation and Blue Economy.

The state minister welcomed the Sri Lankan envoy and assured him of all cooperation while discharging his duties in the country.
