JUTA observes work abstention over proposed pay scale

Jahangirnagar University Teacher’s Association (JUTA) observed three-hour work abstention programme on Sunday to press home their demand for a separate payscale for university teachers. In part of their movement, they also started signature campaign in front of the New Arts Building of the university today. Caritas urges to ensure more labor rights

Bangladesh needs to do more to ensure labor rights in the country, says a Caritas official reacting to the U.S. keeping the country off its list of developing nations who enjoy special trade privileges. “If Bangladesh can ensure labor rights, and regain the generalized system of preferences, the industry can make even more progress and the workers will benefit greatly,” says Caritas Dhaka regional director Ronjon F. Market ends week lower on dull trade

Share trading was predominantly lackluster during the week ending on Thursday as investors were cautious in repositioning and placing orders for secondary shares. The benchmark index DSEX eroded 55 points this week when Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw low level of activities and experienced a technical glitch that halted trading for nearly two hours on Wednesday, reports BSS.
