Leather exports slump amid environment concerns
Country’s tannery industry looks set to suffer a big blow as demand for finished leather and leather products in major international markets has been plunging amid grave concerns over the environmental hazard created by the country’s leather industry.
Sector insiders say July exports further reflected the sluggish trend that in the country’s leather industry has continued over the last couple of years, Xinhua reported.

Qatar Airways boosted flights to Bangladesh
Qatar Airways has boosted its scheduled flights to Bangladesh and Eritrea, the Doha-based airline announced on Sunday.
From September 7, 2015, flights from Doha to Asmara, the capital city and largest city in Eritrea, will be increased from four to five times per week, representing a 25 percent increase 
in capacity.
Equally, from December 9, 2015, flights from Doha to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, will also be increased, jumping from 10 to 14 weekly, effectively increasing capacity by 40 percent.

Nature awareness art exhibition at SUST
A 4- day long nature awareness art exhibition started at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Monday (17th August, 2015). The exhibition has been arranged by the Green Explore Society, a nature and environmental organization of SUST campus. The exhibition will be closed on 20th August by this week.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Vice –Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aminul Haque Bhuyan on the

Safe drinking water thru’ ‘Drinkable Books’
The next stage is to test the books in larger trials where they are used by local residents
A book with pages that can be torn out to filter drinking water has proved effective in its first field trials.
In trials at 25 contaminated water sources in Bangladesh, South Africa, and Ghana, the paper successfully removed more than 99% of bacteria.
The “drinkable book” combines treated paper with printed information on how and why water should be filtered.
