PM Hasina urges the US to lift sanctions against Russia

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday asked the US to withdraw the sanctions it imposed on Russia as their punitive action is causing immense suffering across the globe. "I think that it is justified to retreat from the act of punishing one country which is hurting the people of the whole world,” she said while inaugurating the new building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, reports UNB. The prime minister joined the event virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban. 4 ambulance drivers fined Tk 1 lakh

Staff Correspondent (Barisal) Four ambulance drivers staying at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital have been fined Tk 1.15 lakh for not getting any ambulance documents. The raid was carried out by Executive Magistrate Sampati Roy of the Deputy Commissioner's Mobile Court on Saturday. He was assisted at the time by BRTA Inspector Iqbal Mahmud. According to the verdict, the operation was carried out as there were more allegations against them including converting the microbus into an ambulance, not having a license, and tax evasion.

Bangladesh in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage committee for 4 years

Bangladesh has been elected to UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) for four years, according to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The country was elected to the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO 2003 Convention for Safeguarding of the ICH for the 2022-2026 cycle. This is the first time that Bangladesh has been elected to the Intergovernmental Committee formed under the 2009 Convention, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen Thursday. Onion imports through Benapole resume after 2 months

Bangladeshi traders have started to import onions from India through Benapole Land Port after a suspension of two months. The import cost per kg of onion is Tk34. The cooking essential is being sold at the market at Tk36 per kg, reports UNB. Importers said the prices of onions will drop further as the import volume goes up. Bangladesh imported 117 metric tonnes of onions from India Thursday afternoon. Shamim Gazi, an importer of Benapole, said: "My company imported 117 metric tonnes of onion from India as the government had allowed us to do so." Benapole Port Deputy Director Abdul Jalil said the port is open 24 hours for quick unloading of the imported onions.

USG demands to protect heritage sites

PM Hasina’s first trip to Tungipara by Padma Bridge, pays homage to Bangabandhu

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday arrived at her ancestral home at Tungipara in Gopalganj on her first visit to the Padma Bridge she inaugurated last month. On arrival she, along with her family members, offered prayer at the mausoleum of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports UNB. Accompanied by her son Sajeed Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed, the premier offered fateha and raised hands in prayer seeking eternal peace of departed souls of  Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15, 1975 massacre.
