Underwater graveyard full of WWII planes is otherworldly

For 70 years, World War II planes have been resting in peace at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Although divers have enjoyed exploring the underwater graveyard since the 1960s, Brandi Mueller's photos allow us to admire these treasures without a wetsuit. "I find diving [to see] the airplanes really exciting," Mueller, a scuba diving instructor and boat captain, told Mashable. "It's a strange thing to see airplanes underwater. Shipwrecks you expect, but not airplanes." The planes didn't actually crash at this particular location near the Marshall Islands, though. They were discarded there after WWII because it was too expensive to transport them back to the United States from the Kwajalein Atoll, according to Mueller. The site includes Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers, F4U Co...

‘My home’ not to be blared with fake housing cos

Undoubtedly it’s a dream of all the city dwellers to own a home. To realize the ‘my home’ they usually go to different housing companies and the brokers who most of the times deceive them. So, ‘dream of my home’ only remains a far cry for the inhabitants of Dhaka city teeming with more than 1.2 million people. While the government is not capable of meeting the accommodation demand of the city people, they have to rely on those tricksters engaged in housing business only to making quick buck, not for the minimum benefits of the city residents. bdreports24-300x214...

Green Climate Fund: Course correction needed?

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is meant to be a new, innovative institution that will directly support climate action in developing countries, with a particular focus on the poorest and most vulnerable who thus far have had little access to climate finance. Further, the GCF is to do this through projects and programmes that also address sustainable development and bring social, environmental, economic and gender benefits. But last week, at its penultimate meeting before the major United Nations climate summit in Paris, the GCF Board took decisions that flew in the face of this vision for the Fund. Sustainable finance key to health equity

The world faces an alarming shortfall of funding needed to transform global health. If the world is to end preventable child, adolescent and maternal deaths, we need new forms of development finance to close a $33.3 billion annual funding gap. A new financing platform announced this week at the Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia aims to do just that. The Global Financing Facility (GFF) is a country-driven financing partnership to accelerate efforts to end preventable maternal, newborn, child and adolescent deaths by 2030. Bangladesh : Joint statement for Int’l Justice Day

International Justice Day, or International Criminal Justice Day, has been observed every year on July 17 since 1998, marking the day on which the international community adopted the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Odhikar and FIDH have been commemorating International Justice Day for several years, both on their own and as members of the International Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC). On this day, the Rome Statute of the ICC was adopted by the international community, with an aim to end impunity for international crimes, namely genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression.
