BUFT, NICHE hold event on Sustainable Value Chain in RMG

BGMEA University and Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and Netherlands Initiative for Capacity Development in Higher Education (NICHE) Project/BGD-199 jointly organized a stake holders mega event on Sunday on “Engagement of Stake holders and Sustainable Value Chain in Bangladesh Garment Sector” at a Hotel Le Meridien, Dhaka on 26thFebruary 2017.

The vision of the project is to ensure a sustainable Ready Made Garment (RMG) sector in pic1Bangladesh through applying Corporate Social Responsibility, Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights, Innovative Leadership in the industry practice.

Mr. Tofail Ahmed, MP, Honorable Commerce Minister, Ministry of Commerce, Government of the people’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief guest and Mr. Md. Shahriar Alam, Honorable State Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the people’s Republic of Bangladesh; Mr. Siddiqur Rahman, President, BGMEA; Ms. Leoni Cuelenaere, Ambassador, the Kingdom of the Netherlands were present as the special guests while the programme was chaired by Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Founder Chairman, Board of Trustees of BUFT.

Mr. TipuMunshi, MP, Chairman, Standing Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of the people’s Republic of Bangladesh; Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor (Designate) of BUFT and Ms. Ineke Pitts were present as the Honorable Speakers.

The keynote speaker of the event were present Mr. Ton Wiedenhoff, Senior Advisor, IAF, the Netherland; Mr. Faruque Hassan, Sr. Vice President, BGMEA & Board of Trustees, BUFT and Dr. Sharif As Saber, Foundation Director, Masters of International Business Program, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia.

As the lead discussants Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Chairman, ATN Bangla; Mr. David Hasanat, CEO and Managing Director, Viyellatex; Ms. RubanaHuq, Mohammadi Group; Mr. Hasan Zahidul Islam, Managing Director, Progressive Apparels Industries Ltd;Mr. Peter koppert, Senior Adviser, IAF; Dr. Golam Moazzem, Additional Director-Research, CPD; Mr. TuomoPoutiainen, RMG ProgrammeManager,ILO-Bangladesh; RubanaHuq, Managing Director, Mohammadi Group; Mr. Nasir Uddin, Founder Chairman and Managing Director, Pacific Jeans; Mr. RazzakSattar, Managing Director, Utah Group; Mr. Marat Yu, Manager, BSR; Mr. MoyeenHyder Chowdhury, Branch Manager, Puma – Bangladesh were present.

International Apparel Federation (IAF) announced that they will initiate joint course and training offering with BUFT. Concerned ministers and BGMEA management expressed their commitment to provide optimum support in this sustainability drive through BCIE by BUFT.
