Budget session begins today

The 11th session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) will begin today  at 5pm aimed at placing the country’s national budget for 2016-2017 Fiscal Year (FY)). Intexpo begins in city

A two-day Indian textile exhibition titled ‘Intexpo Bangladesh 2016’ began in Dhaka today to tap the growing business potential especially that of man-made fibers (MMF) textiles. The Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) of India in association with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka is organizing the expo. Bangladesh to invest in Bhutan’s hydropower

A trilateral cooperation among Bhutan, Bangladesh and India that will enable Bangladesh to invest in the Bhutanese power sector to re-import the electricity could soon be a reality. A draft memorandum of understanding on the trilateral collaboration is being circulated among the three friendly countries. Bangladesh’s foreign minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, who was on a visit to the country last week, told Kuensel that his country will invest in the 1,125MW Dorjilung hydropower project in Lhuentse. He said India has agreed to Bangladesh’s proposal to invest in the project and provide transit for transmission of electricity from Bhutan.

Marcia S. B. Bernicat, the US ambassador to Bangladesh praised that Bangladesh has made remarkable progress, especially in the areas of improving living standard, health, hygiene and sanitation. But she also opined that labor rights including rights to trade union should be ensured in workplaces, says a press release.
