IU 37th Founding Anniv observed

Students, teachers, officials, staffs and well-wishers of the Islamic University (IU), Kushtia observed its 37th founding anniversary and 38th IU Day amid great passion, festivity and optimism yesterday.

The celebration was started by hoisting national and university flags at 8:30am on the day.

University vice chancellor Prof Harun-ur-Rashid Askari hoisted the national flag while pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman hoisted the university flag.

At 9 am in the morning all hall provosts simultaneously hoisted national flags and Hall flags on their respective halls.

At 10 am the university authority led by the VC brought out a colorful procession that paraded the whole campus and ended at Birsrestho Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of IU.

On that procession around 6000 students, Teachers, Officials, staffs and well-wishers joined   simultaneously.

All the departments, students wing of different political organizations, all halls, IUTA, IIER, Medical Center, different teachers forums, Central Library and all the cultural and social, voluntary organization joined the procession under their own banner.

The participators carried Banner, Festoon, musicals, and different arts to welcome the University day and the founding anniversary.

Later, the university held a discussion and cultural program on the Birsrestho Hamidur Rahman central auditorium.

The Discussion program presided by IU pro VC Prof Dr Shahinoor Rahman, started by singing the National Anthem.

Later, addressing at a discussion program the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-Ur-Rashid Ashkari vowed to establish a Corruption and session jam free digital campus and establishing the university as a model for the whole world.

The universality will be the field of Education and Research, he added.

He also vowed to the students and teachers that ‘we are going to digitalize the campus with full residential facilities for Students and teachers and the 4th Convocation will be held immediately.’

He also sought help from teachers, students and staffs to run the university’s research and other academic activities smoothly and to ask them the moral support for the academic change of the university.

He also emphasized upholding the tradition of the university and urged the students to play a greater role in promoting the spirit of the Liberation War and freethinking.

Among others, IU pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, treasurer Prof Dr Selim Toha, Registrar (acting) SM Abdul Latif, Students’ Adviser Prof Dr M Anwarul Haque also addressed the discussion program.

After the discussion program a cultural program started and will continue till today.

The Islamic University in Kushtia started its journey on November 22 in 1979. It is the first university established after liberation war.

According to Register office, a number of 1695 students are enrolled in every session for conducting higher education by combined efforts of teachers, officials and employees. Presently more than 12000 students are studying at the university. 554 M. Phil Students and 415 PhD fellows are researching in the University.

There are 356 Teachers are teaching in the university and 397 officers and around 600 employers are serving the University.

There are 25 departments under five faculties that conduct higher education for studies in Theology, Islamic Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Applied Science and Technology, Business Administration and Law and Shariah. The university has developed Institute of Islamic Education and Research (IIER) and a Laboratory School.

175 acres’ university also consist of   two administration building, medical center, country’s 3rd largest Mosque, an auditorium of 1200 seats, a cafeteria a rich and modern library, Computer center, VC bungalow, residential quarter for teachers and staffs, Guest House. Four Halls for male and 3 halls for female students. It also consists of campus including largest Shaheed Minar, Mukto Bangla and Smrity Shoudho.

Islamic University is one of the major public universities in Bangladesh in southwest region in the country.
