New memorial trust fund established at DU

A trust fund titled ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib Memorial Trust Fund’ has been set up at the Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University (DU). In order to set up this fund Provost of the Hall Prof. Dr. Sabita Rezwana Rahman handed over a cheque for Tk. 12.5 lac from the Hall-fund to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin on Monday at the Vice-Chancellor’s office. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art Prof. Syed Abul Bark Alvi, Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman and House Tutors of the Hall were present on the occasion.

Non-farm units see 118pc growth, regional disparity unchanged

Though the country experienced a 118 percent growth in non-farm economic units over the last 10 years, regional disparity still remains as usual, reveals the preliminary findings of the Economic Census 2013. The preliminary report of the Economic Census 2013 was launched by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics at its Agargaon headquarters on Sunday. The previous Economic Census, conducted over a three-year period from 2001 to 2003, showed that the country had about 37 lakh non-farm economic units, reports UNB. The preliminary findings of the latest Census, conducted over four months’ time from February to May this year, showed that the number of economic units has increased from 37 lakhs to 82 lakhs over the last 10 years, which is a 118 percent increase.

REHAB, NHA to work together for growth of housing sector

Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has teamed up with the National Housing Authority (NHA) to work for development of the government's housing sector. This was disclosed when leaders of REHAB held the association's first meeting with NHA Chairman Shahidul Alam at the housing authority here. Malaysian Premier arrives amid cordial reception

The red carpet was rolled out as Malaysian Premier Najib Razak and his spouse Rosmah Mansor arrived in the city this evening on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received her Malaysian counterpart at the VVIP Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8.05 pm. Two tiny tots welcomed the Malaysian Prime Minister, his wife and entourage with bouquets.
