Empowering youth with disabilities in Bangladesh thru’ ICT
In Bangladesh, youth with disabilities often have difficulty transitioning to work, as they lack the necessary skills to perform competitively in the job market and also face discrimination from employers on the basis of their disability. When the World Bank and Microsoft announced the regional grant competition “Youth Solutions! Technology for Skills and Employment”, we decided to submit a proposal to address this from the Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) in Bangladesh.
Our proposed project titled “Empowering Youth with Disabilities through Market Driven ICT Skills” sought ideas from youth on how to use innovative and creative methods to promote ICT skills amongst youth with disabilities to help them secure gainful employment.
Revenue shortfall widens in tax receipts
The shortfall in revenue collection further widened in the first four months of the current fiscal year. Officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said, NBR continued to struggle in achieving its revenue collection target amid volatile political environment and economic slowdown prevailing in the country.
According to NBR data released on Thursday, the revenue board fell short of target by Tk 3,119.68 crore or 8.58 per cent in July-October of FY 2013-14.
In the period, the NBR managed to collect Tk 33,492.84 crore against the collection target of Tk 36,612.52 crore, the data showed.
Ticfa, US bilateralism and Bangladesh
AFTER a decade of negotiation between the US and Bangladesh, TIFA has recently received a new name — Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum Agreement (Ticfa). Only in four cases the name TIFA varied and became Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum (TICF), Trade and Investment Development Cooperation Agreement (TIDCA), Framework Agreement for Trade, Economic, Investment, Technical Cooperation (FATEITC). Whatever the term is, these are the precursors for the US to have complete bilateral trade and investment (BTI) agreements with its strategic allies.

Bangladeshi workers lead protest march in Vancouver for safety accord
More than 100 protesters marched through Hudson's Bay in downtown Vancouver on Monday, demanding the company do more to address safety issues and workers' rights months after the collapse of the RanaPlaza garment factory in Bangladesh.
