punishment of college student’s killers demanded

The Combined Cultural Alliance of Jahangirnagar University (JU) demanded immediate punishment of the killers of Comilla Victoria College student and cultural activist Shahagi Jahan Tanu on Wednesday here on campus. The leaders and activists raised the demand at a human chain programme in front of the New Arts Bulding while they were protesting the murder.

At about 11.00 am, under the banner of ‘Combined Cultural Alliance’, numbers of leaders and rallyactivists brought out a procession from Social Science Faculty premises ended at the New Arts Building after parading the main streets on the campus including administration building and Amar Ekushey premises. Later, a rally was also held at the same place.

At the human chain, condemning the incident, Zubair Tipu, President of Combined Cultural Alliance, asked the Government where they will find security while a college woman is not safe her local place under the cantonment area. He also urged to the government to arrest the Tanu’s killer immediately and ensure exemplary punishment.

Directed by Moshiur Rahman, Tanu’s former classmate Shahadat Hossain Noman, a first year student of JU, Abid Hossain Shohag, General Secretary (GS) of JU student Union unit, Shusmita Marium, GS of JU Socialist Students Front, Masum Munwar, founder of Chirkut, a literature based organization, Partho Pratim Mozumder, GS of Theater were present at the protesting programme, among others.

Earlier, on Sunday, Shohagi Jahan Tanu was allegedly raped and murdered by some miscreants at Alipur Area under Mainamati Cantonment area beside a forest. She was a student of History department of Comilla Victoria College and also a cultural activist.
