Garment exports decline in July
Exports of readymade garments from Bangladesh registered double-digit decline in the first month of financial year 2015-16, according to the latest government data.
In July 2015, Bangladesh earned $2.215 billion in garment exports, showing a decrease of 12.02 per cent compared to exports of $2.518 billion made in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal, Export Promotion Bureau data showed.
The decline in the value of garment exports was in tune with the 11.96 per cent drop in overall exports by Bangladesh during the month. One reason for the decline in exports is the holiday

Bangladesh suffered a significant export drop in July, contracting about 12 percent over the same month last year, an official said Sunday.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official who preferred to be unnamed told Xinhua that the country earned a total of 2,625.93 million U.S. dollars from exports in July, the first month of the current 2015-2016 (July 2015-June 2016) fiscal year, compared to 2, 982.74 million dollars in the same period a year earlier.

Leather exports slump amid environment concerns
Country’s tannery industry looks set to suffer a big blow as demand for finished leather and leather products in major international markets has been plunging amid grave concerns over the environmental hazard created by the country’s leather industry.
Sector insiders say July exports further reflected the sluggish trend that in the country’s leather industry has continued over the last couple of years, Xinhua reported.

Qatar Airways boosted flights to Bangladesh
Qatar Airways has boosted its scheduled flights to Bangladesh and Eritrea, the Doha-based airline announced on Sunday.
From September 7, 2015, flights from Doha to Asmara, the capital city and largest city in Eritrea, will be increased from four to five times per week, representing a 25 percent increase 
in capacity.
Equally, from December 9, 2015, flights from Doha to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, will also be increased, jumping from 10 to 14 weekly, effectively increasing capacity by 40 percent.

Nature awareness art exhibition at SUST
A 4- day long nature awareness art exhibition started at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Monday (17th August, 2015). The exhibition has been arranged by the Green Explore Society, a nature and environmental organization of SUST campus. The exhibition will be closed on 20th August by this week.
