Police disperse students protesters at Mirpur

Staff Reporter: Police dispersed students who had gathered at ECB Chattar in Mirpur on Monday noon to protest the recent deaths during student movements and to demand the release of individuals arrested by law enforcement agencies. The students began their demonstration around 12 PM. However, by 12:30 PM, police had moved in to disperse the crowd, according to reports from the scene. Following the dispersal, the protesters regrouped in different alleys in the area. 55 cops transferred in major reshuffle

Fifty five (55) officers have been transferred in a significant reshuffle among senior ranks of the police force. This development was announced in four separate notifications issued by the Police-1 branch of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday. UN warns Ethiopia landslide casualties could climb to 500

The Guardian: The death toll from landslides that hit south-western Ethiopia on Sunday and Monday has risen to 257 and could reach 500, the UN’s office for humanitarian affairs (OCHA) says. Heavy rains in the mountainous Gofa zone caused a landslide on Sunday night, followed by a second on Monday morning that trapped people who were rescuing victims of the first. The death toll stood at 229 on Tuesday, according to Ethiopia’s national disaster risk management commission. At least 125 people have been displaced and 12 injured, OCHA said in an update on Thursday.
